Winter 2024 Prompt
Describe a challenging experience you faced and explain how you overcame it. What did you learn from this experience?
Essay Guidelines
-Essays must be between 300 and 1,000 words (not including cover and reference pages).
-Must have an introduction, body, and conclusion paragraph.
-Cover page must include name, age, grade, school, and city.
-No assistance from artificial intelligence (AI) is permitted. Plagiarism of any sort automatically disqualifies the applicant. All essays are analyzed through Turnitin.com to ensure originality.
-Include a reference page of all sources, if necessary.
Prompts and Deadlines
-Our nonprofit initiative seeks to successfully serve our community and improve lives through a merit-based system of reflective essay prompts.
-Essay submissions for the winter 2024 prompt will be accepted through March 25th, 2024.

Grading Criteria
-Content: The depth of the essay is an important factor. Be sure to include personal experience and explain in detail.
-Critical Thinking: Be able to present a thoughtful and well-reasoned perspective. Go beyond surface-level thought.
-Originality and Creativity: The uniqueness of your ideas and how you demonstrate independent thinking are important factors.
-Clarity and Expression: The effectiveness of your writing style, grammar, and vocabulary in conveying ideas concisely and clearly.
-Relevance: Before you write, be sure to understand the prompt. Ensure the final product answers all aspects of the prompt.
-Adherence to Guidelines: Ensure your essay is within the appropriate word count with a cover page included.
